About Us

Our Story

My name's Charlotte and I'd like to share with you my luxurious and sustainable pyjamas. Charlotte Dunn Design was founded with a simple mission: create high-quality pyjamas that are kind to your skin and the
planet.

I first discovered the realities of bamboo and organic cotton while working in a bridal boutique that specialised in eco-friendly gowns. Every night I wanted to sleep in a wedding dress. After some research into these two - and other - organic textiles, I have been completely enchanted by their seemingly magical qualities. And so, with my lovely mum, I've started Charlotte Dunn Design.

Together, we have poured care into each pair because pyjamas should be beautiful and should be thoughtfully created to ensure that everyone receives the gift of a good night’s sleep. The materials in which we have chosen to dress you as you drift off all have one important thing in common; their journey to you is sustainable.

I believe that we can care for both our environment and the quality of
our produce; our two passions can quite easily be bedfellows.

Sustainability is so much more than just working with organic materials. It’s a culture revolving around caring about every aspect which this brand works with including: caring for those who weave our materials, the
nature of the materials, the design, production, marketing, social outreach, charitable support partnerships… the list goes on.

GOTS-Certified Materials

All of the material which we work with is Organic or GOTS certified. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.

Organic means we don't use chemicals in the growing and harvesting process of our materials. Workers are not put at risk of inhaling dangerous chemicals when making our clothes, leaching of chemicals into the surrounding wild life doesn't happen and animal welfare is also taken into consideration. Organic farmers use natural methods to grow their materials which helps promote healthy soil and fight against climate change.

Ethical Supply Chain

We produce with ApparelTASKER, a zero waste factory based in London who champions ethical production, providing clean and safe work environments and fair wages.

We always produce in small batches and collect all of our offcuts to make fun accessories such as scrunchies or eyemasks trying to operate as a zero waste brand. We also recycle any materials that we cannot reuse.

Some of the highlights from ApparelTASKER:

  • Responsible manufacturing, the use of technology to allow for real time monitoring and approval during the producing process to ensure that no area of the business is put under strain, going beyond the industry requirements by offering higher wages and wold-class working conditions.
  • Sustainable development - taking the full life cycle of the garment into consideration, Zack and Alex are both highly skilled in maximizing the design development of a garment so that it has a long and beautiful life. They also have a zero-waste approach to garment production and work with local suppliers where possible.
  • Eco-friendly- packaging garments in biodegradable and eco-friendly packaging, using DHL Go-Green services on send outs. Energy saving servo motors on all equipment (80-90% saving to traditional clutch motor). Employ a vigilant and robust recycling process ensuring zero waste manufacturing. Energy saving LED Low energy lighting in all factory devisions (70-80% energy saving to traditional lighting)
  • Bamboo

Bamboo fabric, often termed the cashmere of plants, is a natural textile made from the pulp of bamboo grass. Coupled with the crop’s rapid growth, it is considered to be one of the most sustainably cultivated plants, when produced in a closed loop process like ours.

It is naturally hypoallergenic, making it the perfect material for those with sensitive skin. Bamboo is one of those magical materials that keeps you warm in the winter, trapping warm air in its cross-sectional fibres, but then cools you down in the summer thanks to its breathable structure and wicking capabilities.

Bamboo also boasts an incredible antibacterial rate of 99.8%. Importantly, this feature's efficacy won't wane in the wash so the fabric will continue to reduce the presence of harmful or odorous bacteria on your skin.

  • Organic Cotton

Organic cotton is a natural, renewable and biodegradable fabric. No chemicals, pesticides or fertilizers are used in the growing, harvesting or spinning of organic cotton keeping it soft and healthy for the skin. By choosing our pyjamas, you're helping to promote traditional and innovative ways of harvesting.

Organic cotton uses 71% less water than non-organic cotton (and 80% of the water used is rainfall) and it doesn’t damage the health of the soil in which it grows. In fact, organic cotton replenishes the soil, helping to maintain its fertility and biodiversity.

Just like the bamboo, the cotton in our pyjamas washes well, and actually softens after each wash. Thanks to these two fabrics, your skin can breathe a deep sigh of relief, knowing that it's in comfortable and considerate hands.

  • Linen

Linen has many sustainable qualities, if well cared for your linen pyjamas can last up to thirty years. As linen comes from the flax plant it is completely biodegradable and during the growing process does not require irrigation. The mill that we work with is fully powered by green energy, making them a champion in terms of commitment towards our planet.

Linen is fantastic at absorbing moisture making it extremely comfortable to sleep in whilst also not holding bacteria, so you wake up feeling fresh and extremely well rested. Due to the hollow nature of the fiber it is able to thermoregulate, keeping you cosy in the winter and cool in the summer. This strong material is also naturally moth resistant so you won’t need any of those posky moth balls rolling around your wardrobe.

Giving Back

We are rooted in the belief that we have a responsibility to protect and preserve the world we live in. We want to empower you on your journey and help you make greener choices. Every time you purchase a set of pyjamas, we will plant 2 trees working with One Tree Planted, a nonprofit organisation focused on global reforestation.

Social and charitable work is also important to us. We raised over £700 and redirected profits made from our sales to produce scrubs for the NHS. We also supported a Charity Yoga in raising money for Mind and Black Minds Matter. We will continue to promote and support charities and natural devastations to raise awareness and support for everyone who dedicates their lives.
